15 Creative fall-inspired Hobbies
Let’s look at these 15 creative fall-inspired hobbies you can do to stay inspired and to invite coziness into this new season.
1) Journaling with an Autumn Twist
Who said that you can’t start journaling in the middle of the year?
Journaling is a classic slow-living practice, and fall is the perfect time to begin. You don’t have to write a long text or be good at writing at all. Just start with simple prompts like:
“What am I ready to let go of?” or “What brings me comfort this season?”
Use warm-colored pens or washi tape to decorate your pages.
2) Watercolor Painting
I’ve never tried this one, but I do know from other people, that painting can have healing powers, and it’s perfect for beginners and pros alike.
Try painting fall leaves, cozy mugs, sweaters, pumpkins, or misty landscapes. You can even create your own seasonal art prints or greeting cards.
For more coziness, light a candle while you paint, and it’s basically therapy.
3) Pressed Flower or Leaf Art
Fall is a perfect time for going for long walks because the weather is neither hot nor cold.
Go on a nature walk and gather some pretty leaves or dried flowers. Press them between books or parchment, then create art by framing them, arranging them into a collage, or using them in journaling spreads. It’s simple, nostalgic, and a lovely way to bring the season indoors.
4) Make a DIY Fall Candle
This is absolutely one of my creative fall-inspired hobbies I need to do this autumn!
And yes, you can make your own candles at home!
You just need to choose warm, cozy scents like cinnamon, vanilla, amber, cedarwood, or any kind of scents you love, and pour them into vintage mugs or mason jars for an aesthetic touch and voilá. It’s easier than you think and your space will smell amazing.
5) Creative Writing or Poetry
Ever thought about writing a story or something more romantic like poetry? If you’ve ever dreamed of writing, autumn is the time to start. With falling leaves, foggy mornings, quiet afternoons, and windy days, this season is considered pure inspiration.
Try writing a short story, personal essay, or seasonal poem. Let the words flow without any pressure and enjoy this creative time.
6) Scrapbooking or Collage Art
For a season to feel special, you need to capture memories, so that when you go to look back at the photos, you can smile at the good rememberings.
You can do this by capturing autumn memories with a seasonal scrapbook or vision journal. Print photos, collect paper scraps, write little notes, and add aesthetic stickers or fall-themed washi tape. Or try collage art with old books and magazines.
I find this kind of activity meditative and creatively freeing.
7) Knitting or Crocheting
In almost every autumn and winter cartoon or film I see, there is someone sitting by the fire and knitting.
And whenever I see it, it gives me a feeling of coziness. And exactly only
a few things say “cozy” like knitting by the fire with a cup of tea.
You can try and start with something simple like a scarf, blanket, or mug cozy. Even if it’s your first time, there are tons of YouTube tutorials to guide you. The process is repetitive, relaxing, and deeply rewarding.
8) Digital Art or iPad Doodling
Love the idea of creating art without having to get paper, a pencil, and an eraser? Try drawing in Procreate or another iPad app.
You can easily create aesthetic prints, wallpapers, stickers, or even digital planners. It’s beginner-friendly and super satisfying once you get the hang of it.
Who knows, maybe you like it and you can even start to earn money as a side hustle!
9) Autumn Photography Walks
Just like with pressed flower or leaf art, you can also take a walk and take stunning photos.
Grab your phone or camera, bundle up, and head out for a golden-hour photo walk. Look around you for leaves, shadows, cozy porches, foggy fields, and little seasonal moments. It’s a creative way to practice mindfulness because you’re all by yourself and you start paying attention to the things that were invisible to you and be present in the moment.
Plus, you’ll end up with a beautiful collection of fall memories, so why not do it?
10) Decorating a Seasonal Journal or Planner
Another of the to-do creative fall-inspired hobbies you absolutely need to try is decorating a seasonal journal or planner. I think it’s one of the most fun and calming things to do.
Turn your planner or journal into an autumn-inspired haven. Use stickers, color-coded pens, pressed leaves, or themed layouts. It makes everyday routines feel much more intentional and enjoyable.
You can download stickers or create yours. Take inspiration from Pinterest if you don’t know how to start! (So do I)
11) Floral Arranging with Dried Flowers
How beautiful is a floral arranging with dried flowers? You can turn this kind of decoration into a unique style and it’s ornamental!
Create a dried flower bouquet or wreath using seasonal elements like eucalyptus, bunny tails, pampas grass, and wheat. You can also use them to style your shelves or table, making your home an aesthetic place.
12) Nature Sketching or Field Journaling
Want to spend some time in nature, enjoying a relaxing creative fall-inspired hobby? Then this is for you.
Nature sketching and field journaling are some of the most healing and soothing activities you can think of. This is why this season, I’m going to try it for the first time.
Go outside with a small notebook and sketch what you see. Trees, mushrooms, changing leaves, birds, or even the sky above you. Rough doodles become meaningful when paired with little notes or thoughts, so try to write your feelings or thoughts that you want to remember with the doodle.
13) Make a DIY Autumn Playlist
Creating a custom playlist for cozy days is creative too!
Before starting to make your playlist, choose songs that will bring that calmness into your days. You can have a mix of soft acoustic, jazz, ambient, or nostalgic tracks that make you feel peaceful and inspired. Play it while you journal or craft or while you do home chores or shower.
14) Making Herbal Tea Blends
Fall is also about drinking a lot of herbal teas, am I right?
This creates a cozy atmosphere, and if you drink it while reading or watching something relaxing is even cozier!
But first, you need to create these herbal tea blends.
Create your own calming herbal teas using dried herbs like chamomile, lavender, mint, and lemon balm. Package them into little jars or sachet.
You can make lovely gifts to give to friends and family too and make their fall season feel special.
15) Seasonal Mood Boarding
Do you know that you can create a seasonal mood board to stay creative, motivated, and inspired?
Make an aesthetic fall mood board on Pinterest or in your journal. Collect images, words, textures, and colors that match your vibe for the season. This is a great way to set intentions, and stay motivated when you feel stuck or just feel inspired.
You can then save it as your phone or desktop wallpaper or print it out and attach it to your vision board.
